Recorded in their hometown of Chicago, Illinois on May 4 through the 7th of this year at the Vic Theatre, Wilco's new double album is their first official live album and culls together the best performances of those four night. If you are already a fan of Jeff Tweedy's band and songwriting, this is a must have for your collection. What is truly amazing about this album is how the warm, intimate feel of the original studio recordings
come across so robust and vibrant in a live setting. Songs from Kicking Television (the title of an internet only outtake from their 2004 release A Ghost Is Born) come primarily from the Ghost album and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and the second disc closing cover of Charles Wright's "Comment" is a worthy surprise. Some of Wilco's best known and loved songs are on this album including "Shot in The Arm," "Hummingbird," "Handshake Drugs," "I Am Trying To break Your Heart," and the epic "Spiders (Kidsmoke)."
If you are new to the band check this album captures this great American band at their creative and performing peak. Time will confirm that Kicking Television will rank right up there with some of the great all-time live albums like Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus, Bob Marley Live, and yes - even Frampton Comes Alive!
