From the opening notes of "Baby, I'm A Fool", Gardot's voice is draped in stylish orchestral arrangements and accompanied by the gentle, understated playing of her band.
My One And Only Thrill showcases a more optimistic side of Gardot's songwriting. "If the Stars Were Mine" is an invitation to daydream. Seemingly simple acoustic guitar and a Latin groove are the foundation for Gardot's brushstrokes, illustrating her fantasy world. A reoccurrence in her passion for Latin rhythms comes in her rendition of the "Over The Rainbow", the album's lone cover.
Smartly, Gardot surrounds herself with amazing talent. On My One And Only Thrill famed producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux) is behind the board. And composer Vince Mendoza was brought in to construct the orchestral arrangements. They certainly set the table, but Gardot delivers with an outstanding collection of songs, her best yet, and a flawless vocal performance.
