Unlike many holiday inspired albums, Christmas With The Puppini Sisters succeeds not only because of the lovely three-part harmonies throughout but also for its clever arrangements. And that credit goes to the three ladies themselves who also tackled all of the string and horn arrangements. Other than playing it straight to classics like Bing Crosby's version of "Here Comes Santa Claus" or The Andrew Sisters "Winter Wonderland", it’s the Puppini's own stamp on these holiday staples that makes the album so enjoyable.
The album begins with an irresistible, horn-fueled version the Elton John/Bernie Taupin penned "Step Into Christmas" that may make Brian Setzer jealous. Add to that some more big-horns on retro-styled versions of must-haves like "Let It Snow" and "All I Want For Christmas". And also, a much needed refreshed version of Wham!'s "Last Christmas" with a mini-string section. Christmas With The Puppini Sisters is full of welcoming and spirited versions of traditional favorites, perfect for these calendar days.
