Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson Richard Thompson
Richard Thompson's 45-year-career is still electric. and his new release, Electric is his fourteenth solo studio album and showcases a progression from folk and country to rock and punk over the course of the record.

Of course, given his history as a founding member of Fairport Convention, and his experience working with artists as diverse as Robert Plant and Nick Drake, Thompson has built a career on playing eclectically. Electric, then, isn't so much a surprise as it is an expression of Thompson's rich career. The two-disco album includes 15 new songs recorded at the Nashville home of guitarist Buddy Miller.

It’s a solo record, but Thompson doesn’t go it alone. Alison Krauss harmonizes on the tender “The Snow Goose” and English singer-songwriter Siobhan Maher Kennedy contributes vocals on several tracks, including the standout ballad “My Enemy.” Hear Thompson play acoustic and discuss "The Snow Goose" and several tracks from the new album on this session of World Cafe, recorded in front of a live audience at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

This session originally aired on February 26, 2013.
