His new album Muchacho, an XPN Featured Album, finds Matthew writing the most personal songs of his career, many of them coming from a stay on the Mexican beach in Tulum. On the album, as Michael comments in our conversation, the sound is influenced by the Brian Eno albums he was listening to. In our performances today the pedal steel of his country leaning days is still out in front. It is not going too far to say there is something mystical in Phosphorescent’s music.
