Patty Griffin

Patty Griffin Is Inspired By Her Father’s Passing on "American Kid"

July 8, 3013 - It’s a middle age milestone, dealing with a parents death. Grammy-winning songwriter Patty Griffin turns the experience into songwriting gold on her new album American Kid.

There are songs inspired by everything from her father exclaiming, “Don’t let me die in Florida!” to the gleam in her grandfather’s eye on his wedding day. Since winning the Grammy for her gospel album Downtown Church Patty has been touring with Robert Plant in Band of Joy and the two have made their own home in Austin, Texas. Patty tells us how Plant quickly improved her song “Ohio” with a few suggestions.

This session originally aired June 6, 3013.
