The songs always seem to be mythical. Ghost stories and murder ballads abound. After years centered in Chicago, where Wilco were major boosters of the duo, they now live in Albuquerque.
Their new project is expansive and ambitious in the pair’s own home made way. The welcome new album is called Wilderness. Rennie Sparks is also a fiction writer and artist and she has created an accompanying book of essays and illustrations of the same name. The stories and songs are all triggered by animals. Sometimes the essays relate to the songs, but just as often they veer off in wonderfully creative ways.
