Levon Helm

Vintage Cafe: Levon Helm Of The Band in 2008 Plus Midnight Ramble Performances

October 14, 2013 - One of the more poignant performances in our Vintage Cafe series.
In 2008 Levon Helm, the drummer in The Band and one of that legendary group’s iconic lead singers, was in a period of relapse from throat cancer. He released the Dirt Farmer album that went on to win the Best Traditional Folk Grammy for that year. We had a chance to talk with Levon as well as to travel to his studio in Woodstock to record one of the legendary Midnight Ramble Saturday night performances. To help offset his medical bills Levon had started to invite fans in to hear a performance each week. In this two part interview we’ll hear from Levon and then hear him with the band playing live.
