Sense of Place: Toronto - Exclusive Stripped Down Session With Metric Featuring Music From Synthetica
November 20, 2013 - Our Toronto Sense of Place Series continues today with a wonderful stripped down session with Metric. The band was formed in Toronto in 1998 by vocalist/keyboardist Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw who join us today.
The rhythm section is drummer Joule Scott Key and bassist Joshua Winstead. Although the band was formed in Toronto they have moved around recording their first EP in Montreal and later moving to Brooklyn. They are now back in Toronto. Their 2009 release Fantasies won for Band Of The Year and Best Alternative Album at the 2010 Juno Awards. Today Emily Haines and James Shaw play duo versions of songs from their latest album Synthetica and talk with the Cafe’s Michaela Majoun about how the changes in the Toronto music scene have helped to foster their success.
