Best of: Neko Case

Best of: Neko Case: A Stunning Performance And Answers Big And Small

December 27,2013 - The songs on Neko Case’s new album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You continues the alt-everything singer’s convoluted yet still deft use of language in songs that are incredibly melodic.
Today we are lucky to hear a wonderfully intimate session with Neko and her favorite singing companion Kelly Hogan plus Eric Bachman (Crooked Fingers, Archers of Loaf) accompanying on keyboard and guitar. The musical setting is stunning. The conversation is full of insight not only into the depression that influenced the writing of the album but also into the many small parts of her everyday like books, food, her farm and more.

Neko Case is an alt/country singer/songwriter who has gained a cult following around her distinctive voice. She began her music career while attending art school in Vancouver, BC. She released her first solo album, The Virginian, in 1997 and began a long-running collaboration with the Vancouver-based indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers. After a couple more solo discs, Neko took a break from the Pornographers to work on her own album, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, which was released in 2006. Fox Confessor greatly expanded her audience and cracked the Billboard charts. She again contributed to the New Pornographers' 2007 record, Challengers, before settling down at her new farm in Vermont. There, she recorded sessions for her next solo record, 2009's Middle Cyclone. Neko Case's fifth studio album, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You was released in 2013 on Anti Records.
