Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson Likes Working Alone!
January 24, 2014 - Today it's the first Cafe appearance of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the work of Ruban Nielson. Ruban is originally from New Zealand but moved to Portland, Oregon six years ago. That is where he started working with samples in his bedroom and that led to the first Unknown Mortal Orchestra album in 2011.
He released another, simply called II and an EP in 2013. He tours with a band but we'll discuss the music he mostly makes alone. Plus he talks about his passion for electronics, building his own pedals and modifying equipment at home. We'll hear live versions of music from the new album.
