Lana Del Rey got her start at age 18, when she moved to New York City to start writing songs and performing in clubs. In 2008 she produced and released the EP Kill Kill through an indie deal with 5 Points Records as Lizzie Grant. Video Games, Del Rey’s breakthrough track, was released soon after on Youtube where it quickly garnered 13 million views. Del Ray’s first album, the doubly eponymous Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant, was released with David Kahne, although it was pulled from circulation and will be re-released this summer. Recently Del Rey has made appearances on Saturday Night Live, David Letterman, and the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Lana Del Rey’s latest offering, Born to Die, was released on January 31 on Interscope Records. The first week of June will see Lana Del Rey touring California and New York before heading to Europe and Australia for the summer. On this episode of World Cafe she talks to David Dye about her Saturday Night Live performance and plays for us live.
