Chuck Brown on World Cafe Vintage

Vintage Cafe - The Late Godfather of DC’s Go-go Music, Chuck Brown

This Vintage Cafe revisits a 2011 conversation with the late Chuck Brown, the Washington DC Godfather of Go-go music. Chuck Brown passed away in 2012 at the age of 75, less than 2 years after we recorded this interview. Go-go music is a mid-tempo style of funk that developed in DC in the mid-70’s that still today draws large crowds to packed clubs. The style, which features lots of audience call-and-response participation never spread much beyond The District but in the day there were a lot of bands like Trouble Funk and EU and Chuck and The Soul Searchers. Chuck even had a radio hit with his song “Bustin’ Loose.” Check out our Go-go music Spotify Playlist.
