Imelda May

Imelda May began her affair with rockabilly early on--by the time she was nine, she'd already begun to emulate Elmore James and Billie Holiday, and by the time she hit fourteen, she was onstage with a swing troupe and on screen with a fish fingers commercial.

But her career didn't stall there. In 2007, after years of singing in clubs and an underground debut, Imelda May stole the spotlight with "Love Tattoo". The 12-track collection shot to the #1 spot in Ireland, displacing Bruce Springsteen and stealing the hearts of audiences and contemporaries the world over. May has since won a Meteor award and shared a stage with a very impressive and long list of artists, including The Supremes, Lou Reed, Jools Holland, Elvis Costello, Jeff Beck, Meat Loaf, and Lionel Ritchie, among others.

May released a followup to "Love Tattoo", which reached US shores in 2011. "Mayhem" is a continuation and evolution of May's bluesy, rocking jazz. It showcases May's penchant for witty lyrics, mixed genres, and energizing rockabilly. Also including more than a hint of country and May's unmistakable, powerful vocals, "Mayhem" builds on the balladry that first ushered Imelda May into the international spotlight. It's no wonder that "Mayhem" was released to a #1 spot on Irish charts, and has since become Imelda May's best-selling effort yet. It's clear that Imelda May is here to stay.
