Chairlift

Chairlift's new album, "Something" is a catchy and creepy foray into 80's inspired pop.

Produced by Hot Chip's Dan Carey, the blend of upbeat, synth-heavy pop and eerie lyrics departs from the effervescent aesthetic of the single "Bruises" that made the group so popular in 2008.  On this album, vocalist Caroline Polachek takes risks-- manipulating her vocals with autotune and even programming synth parts to mimic the sound of her voice. Though bandmember Aaron Pfenning left in between the two albums, "Something" manages to be both a daring and natural progression from the group's debut "Do You Inspire You."

In this World Cafe session, Polachek and Patrick Wimberly play live, including the single "Amanaemonesia" and the first official album single, "Sidewalk Safari." The talk about the creative process in the making of the album "Something," released January 24 on Columbia Records, and Caroline's dance performance in their music video. Encouraged by Carey to make the album they wanted, the duo did exactly that and expanded their touring band accordingly.  Whether you listen to the album or catch the group performing live, "Something" is quirky, edgy and addicting.
