Comprised of Brian Sella (vocals, guitars) and Mathew Uychich (drums, bullhorn), The Front Bottoms haven't lost an ounce of their irreverent yet emotional style over time. They've toured internationally, shared the stage with the likes of Vanessa Carlton and Titus Andronicus, and played at music festival Bamboozle--all before releasing a studio album. Their official, eponymous debut, out just this September on Bar/None Records, combines their smart comedy with experience.

"The Front Bottoms" could be called a study in contrasts. As described by the band, it's "hook-filled...anthemic...confessional", calling on influences from Joni Mitchell to Green Day. It has its fair share of indie folk, but there are definite punk influences in the album as well. Filled with poetic imagery and endless humor, "The Front Bottoms" can't be classified. And that's exactly what the band wants. "We like to keep it familiar so that it's not too intimidating, but we always make sure it's not immediately recognizable," as Sella said.

In this session, Brian and Mathew talk to World Cafe's David Dye about their lifelong friendship - since they were 8 and 10 - writing songs in their teens, their live shows, and play live.
