Megafaun

When folk-rock group DeYarmond Edison broke up in 2006, Justin Vernon created Bon Iver, and the other three members, Joe Westerlund and brothers Brad and Phil Cook formed Megafaun.

Megafaun has since consistently explored how far it can push the boundaries of folk over the course of four albums that incorporate jazz, psychedelic, rock, experimental and acoustic music.  Their most recent album, the self-titled "Megafaun," was released September 20th, and has been praised as one of their most impressive outputs to date.

On "Megafaun," the group strikes a nearly perfect balance of being musically adventurous, while maintaining a common thread between songs that holds the album together.  On "State/Meant," their history with Bon Iver's Vernon is called to mind by the melancholy sound and sad-soft singing.  However, it is contrasted and complemented, as only Megafaun can, by Get Right, which has a shiny, 90's rock quality to it.

Megafaun has scheduled a tour of the Southeast for November to promote the new album. Hear the band sit down with WXPN's Michaela Majoun, and talk about their recent European tour, their surprise over their recent success and play a few songs live, from their new album.
