The roots for Milagres were first planted with the indie-pop outfit, The Secret of Sofia. Led by Kyle Wilson (singer and songwriter), the young band self-released a number of well-received EPs, and began to tweak their sound and line up around 2009. The result was Milagres (Portuguese for 'miracles), comprised of Wilson, Fraser McCulloch (bass, backing vocals, keys), Eric Schwortz (guitar, backing vocals, percussion), Steven Leventhal (drums, percussion), and Chris Brazee (piano, keys). Combining their impressive talents, the members of Milagres have just released their sophomore effort, "Glowing Mouth", on Portland-based label Kill Rock Stars.
"Glowing Mouth" represents a change in Milagres' vision, opening it up to more influences. Its scope is expansive, and its sound is interlaced by hip-hop beats, intricate guitar lines, Wilson's inimitable falsetto, and dreamy piano underlays. It so impressed the Kill Rock Star reps that the band wasn't even called in to perform before being issued an invitation to join the label. Though "Glowing Mouth" was released just this past week, there's already quite a buzz around what could be called the reinvention of Milagres--and all of that buzz is well deserved. "Glowing Mouth", to put it succinctly, is just plain cool.
