For the past 30 years, this British songstress, dancer, and producer has been topping charts and influencing a long line of music A-listers (Tori Amos, KT Tunstall, Lily Allen, Florence Welch, Muse, OutKast, Bloc Party, Sex Pistols, Pat Benatar...the list goes on and on). She got an early start, signing to EMI at the tender young age of 16 and releasing her first #1 UK single at 19. Her musical style is a swirling concoction of rock, pop, alt-everything, art rock, and plenty of folk influences. Ethereal, political, and just plain beautiful, Kate Bush's sound is meticulously crafted and endlessly fascinating. Over the years, she's released a total of nine studio albums, a couple of EPs, one live album, and contributed to several projects, including Peter Gabriel's "Charisma".
Bush's latest is a reworking of two of her earlier albums, "The Sensual World" and "The Red Shoes". It must be hard to take what many describe as near-perfection and push it even closer, but Bush has succeeded. She transposes digital to analog in a bold move for a warmer sound. She added new lyrics, replacing some songs entirely. She offers a new take on her influences with an eye toward the past, and she's finally able to offer these songs in the forms she prefers--well-thought out, intentional, and beguiling.
