Formed in 2007 from the dissolution of bands such as Pretty Girls Make Graves and Hint Hint, this trio has built a sound full of potentially dark folk, perhaps with more than a hint of punk rock influences. Pete Quirk (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Derek Fudesco (guitar and bass), and Marty Lund (drums, guitar) have found their own niche in contemporary Americana. After signing with Matador and releasing two acclaimed albums, they switched to Jagjaguwar and created another set of enticing songs.
The Cave Singers' latest release is "No Witch", their third full-length and their strongest yet. The roots of its creators in Rain City is obvious in this release--the stripped down arrangements evoke images of dreary skies but also beautiful scenery. They're a welcome addition to the local Seattle scene and the vastness of Americana overall, giving some perspective to the folk pop that has risen to prominence in the last few years.
Hear the band play live, talk about their current European tour with Fleet Foxes, and the influences of Seattle on their music and lyrics.
