A Man Called Destruction – The Life and Music of The Box Tops and Big Star’s Alex Chilton

June 5, 2014 - Why should we be interested in the story of a rock star whose biography is titled A Man Called Destruction? Alex Chilton’s biographer Holly George-Warren is here to put Chilton’s often tumultuous and indeed self-destructive life in perspective. The reason why we care is because of his work over the years starting when he was 16 years old and sang on one of the greatest 2 minutes in rock history, “The Letter” by The Box Tops. He went on to form the most revered and influential band Big Star in the early 70s. We’ll hear the music and I’ll talk with Holly George-Warren about Alex Chilton. Visit out Tumblr worldcafe.tumblr.com for thee playlist Holly put together of Chilton’s best work.
