June 26, 2014 - When The Walkmen went on what they called an “extreme hiatus” in November of last year we knew we would miss them, but we also understood the decision to split after a lot of years of creative togetherness. We also knew to expect solo albums, just maybe not so many or so soon. Peter Matthew Bauer has Liberation coming and Walter Martin has a kid’s album. First up though is Black Hours, the solo album from lead singer Hamilton Leithauser. As the voice of the Walkmen it is easiest to draw comparisons with Hamilton's work and the band’s. Leithauser has set up a very different sound palette for his solo work on a record that in some ways echoes Frank Sinatra' classic In the Wee Small Hours in structure. We’ll talk with the affable Leithauser and hear some on stage performances from his band that feature his wife on vocals.
