King Khan and The Shrines

King Kahn and The Shrines’ Psychedelic Garage/Soul

Our guests today, King Kahn and the Shrines, are a garage/soul/psychedelic band from  Berlin led by the charismatic Arish Kahn. Kahn grew up in Montreal, the son of South Asian parents, and first played in punk bands.  The Shrines have been recording together since 2000 and released their latest album Idle No More on Merge records last Fall. Kahn is fascinating as both an over the top performer and as a far-ranging thinker. He’ll discuss the title of the new album, Idle No More – it  comes from a Canadian indigenous people’s movement Kahn supports.
