Son Little Artist To Watch - November 2014

Philly’s Son Little is the new musical project from Aaron Livingston. He’s collaborated with The Roots and RJD2, and his song “The River” was one of our recent Gotta Hear Songs of The Week. John Vettese called it “a barn-burning bootstomp jam, an utterly catchy song that’s a little bit electronic, a little bit soul, a little bit blues.”

Son Little releases his debut six song EP called Things I Forgot on Anti- on November 11th.

Jon Pareles, who reviewed Son Little’s show at CMJ this past week wrote in the New York Times:

His band uses electronics to toss in the odd percussive loop or synthesizer swoop; his guitar playing is laconic but pointed; and his lyrics mingle existential fears with his blandishments. At Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday night, he started singing “Your Love Will Blow Me Away When My Heart Aches” a cappella, almost like a spiritual, then turned it into a crawling blues-rock song jabbed by his dissonant guitar and stray sci-fi echo effects. The music had roots, but wasn’t looking back.
