Everything You Need To Know About Cajun Culture with Michael Doucet

Cajun music and culture is the subject of today's part of our Sense of Place visit to Lafayette, Louisiana. To talk about the distinctions between Creole and Cajun culture we went to talk with the most visible proponent of Cajun music out of Lafayette, Michael Doucet, the fiddler and founding member of the great band Beausoleil. He is a life-long Lafayette resident who has made Beausoleil world renowned since they formed in 1975. Michael will trace the history of the Acadians in the New World, talk about how they have been viewed in Southwest Louisiana over the years and stress the importance of family. Among his many projects Doucet has spent some time as an adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Also hear two songs from a live World Cafe session with Beausoleil from 1998.

Beausoleil – “Eunice Two Step”
Beausoleil – “Newz Reel”
