Lost Bayou Ramblers

Lost Bayou Ramblers John Vettese / WXPN
Accordions, Beer, Cajun French and Punk Rock With The Lost Bayou Ramblers

The Cajun band The Lost Bayou Ramblers was formed a decade and a half ago by brothers Louis and Andre Michot. They play a revved up version of Cajun music that draws the description of punk and even psychedelic for its high energy and the innovative use of electronics and feedback. The band is most widely known for their contributions to the soundtrack to Beasts of The Southern Wild. Their latest album Mammoth Waltz has appearances from Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes and the actress Scarlett Johansson. We discuss architecture (Louis built his own house), the French language as spoken in Lafayette and accordion making (Andre makes his own squeezeboxes).
