Our Sense of Place visit to Lafayette finishes up today with Sonny Landreth, a longtime Lafayette resident and great ambassador for the city’s music scene. Sonny has developed one of the most singular and exciting styles of slide guitar playing while remaining influenced by the zydeco he started with. His songs, particularly “ Congo Square’ have become Louisiana standards. We’ll hear a live set recorded in October at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. We’ll talk Lafayette and zydeco. Sonny’s first sideman gig, as we will hear in our conversation today, was with the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier.
