The Punch Brothers

Punch Brothers Keep Searching On The Phosphorescent Blues

February 10, 2015 - If you saw the concert film Another Day, Another Time, the companion movie to the Coen Brothers Inside Llewyn Davis, you saw our guests today The Punch Brothers. The quintet performed as the house band using their considerable skills to accompany a wide range of folk acts. The Punch Brothers call themselves a bluegrass band but their latest album The Phosphorescent Blues has a huge variety of pieces including two by classical composers Debussy and Scriabin. They were formed when mandolin player Chris Thile's other band Nickel Creek went on hiatus. They worked with T Bone Burnett on Another Day, Another Time and decided to bring him on board to produce the new album. Burnett added subtle drums and even an electric guitar to The Punch Brothers’ usually all acoustic line-up. It’s The Punch Brothers all acoustic today on the World Cafe.
