Today's performance is with Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers and Ohio-based singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield. The two have run into each other on the road for years and developed a friendship based on many things including their mutual infatuation with the music of the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Smith died in 2003 at the age of 34 leaving five albums and the posthumous From a Basement On A Hill. Finally, after years of discussions and attempts comes the album Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliot Smith. Today we'll hear them live on stage at World Cafe Live performing songs from the album plus Smith songs had to be left off of it and one from an artist that was an influence on him.
