Hop Along

Hop Along Kelsey Stanger / WXPN
World Cafe: Next – Frances Quinlan’s Intense Vision And Voice Leads Philadelphia’s Hop Along

Our World Cafe: Next artist this week is Hop Along from Philadelphia. On tour now with another Philadelphia band, The War On Drugs, the bill illustrates the depth of talent in Philadelphia. Hop Along is a 4 piece that evolved from lead singer Frances Quinlan's solo freak-folk recordings while still in high school. The music on Painted Shut, the group’s first album for Saddle Creek Records, is no one's folk music. it is brash, powerful and melodic rock with Frances' vocals, intense sometimes to the point of being abrasive, leading the way.
