Mavis Staples - Vintage

Mavis Staples - Vintage Provided By The Artist
You’re Going To Feel Better After Hearing Mavis Staples Sing

What a joy to have Mavis Staples on the World Cafe. Mavis has one of the richest and warmest voices of our time. Born in 1940 she has been singing, first with her family in The Staple Singers led by her father Roebuck “Pops” Staples and later on her own. The Staples had major hits in the 70s for Stax Records with songs like ”Respect Yourself” and “I'll Take You There“ and they were a major force in the civil rights movement. Today's Vintage Cafe comes from 2010 when Mavis made an album in her hometown Chicago with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy producing. He also wrote songs for her like the wonderful title track “You Are Not Alone.” She talks about working with Tweedy and remembers her father Pops Staples who passed away in 2000.
