Martha Scanlan

The Wide Open Space Of Montana Based Singer Martha Scanlan
Our World Cafe: Next artist this week is a folk singer who has been living on a working family ranch in Montana for the last five years. Her name is Martha Scanlan and after releasing her first two albums she embraced a rural lifestyle with no music on her mind. But it came anyway. Her third album, out earlier this year, is called The Shape Of Things Gone Missing, The Shape Of Things To Come. The imagery and even the pace of the album conjure big sky and wide open spaces. She used her Kickstarter money wisely to head to Portland to record with members of The Decemberists and Black Priarie along with the singer Amy Helm. The spacious arrangements are just right for these songs and sound lovingly improvised in the studio. We'll play you a couple of songs and you can check our Tumblr at Worldcafe.tumblr.com for out World Cafe: Next podcast.
