The Pretenders On World Cafe

"You need new, fresh blood sometimes," Chrissie Hynde says of making the new Pretenders album. "You need to feed off of something that inspires you."
Chrissie Hynde has been seeking inspiration ever since she left her hometown of Akron, Ohio, in the '70s for London, where she ended up founding The Pretenders. The band's 1980 debut was cutting-edge, sexually direct and a major hit. More recently, Hynde has been working with other musicians as producers and songwriting partners: She made her first solo album, Stockholm, with Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and her new Pretenders album, Alone, with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
