PHILADELPHIA, PA October 28, 2005 – WXPN, the non-commercial radio station from the University of Pennsylvania, has selected Brandi Carlile for its November pick for Artist To Watch. On Monday, October 31 in the four o’clock hour, host David Dye will present the first of the month’s on-air segments profiling the 23-year old native of Washington State.

Brandi Carlile's self-titled debut album is a goldmine of heartfelt songs, all delivered in a world-class voice that is garnering much attention. Rolling Stone, Paste, and Interview magazines have all put Carlile on their list of notable emerging artists.

“It's for good reason that she's getting so much attention,” said Bruce Warren assistant general manager for programming at WXPN. “Carlile’s vocals have a distinct personality, and she sings each song with complete conviction.”

As much as the new album promises, she delivers all of that and much more live.

“Flanked by ‘The Twins’ (Tim & Phil Hanseroth - real twin brothers who play live with Brandi and also co-produced the album), Carlile parlays these wonderful songs into mini-dramas on stag,” said Dan Reed, WXPN music director. “Unpretentious and affable, she is the epitome of an artist that truly enjoys and believes in what's she's doing. You can't help but root for this Seattle native. Fans of Jeff Buckley please take special note of her voice - an exquisite instrument, indeed.”

WXPN listeners caught the first local performance of Carlile on October 27 when she performed along with Susan Tedeschi, Mike Doughty and Melody Gardot at WXPN’s Anniversary Concert broadcasted from World Cafe Live. The XPN Artists To Watch series reflects WXPN’s commitment to nurturing fresh, new talent and exposing listeners to the best new music. Each month, the XPN Artists To Watch series spotlights a different up-and-coming performer who has produced an album or body of work that demonstrates outstanding vision, creativity and songwriting ability.
