Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator - Sony Masterworks

CD of the Month

It seemed destined that beyond their marriage to each other Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi would ultimately tie their music together as well. After years of touring and collaborating the immensely talented husband and wife team have officially joined forces under the banner of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Merging talents and band members have made for as you could imagine one powerful debut album in Revelator.

Since his pre-teens Trucks was nabbed a guitar prodigy. His ascent from touring with the Allman Brothers at the age of 12 to starting the Derek Trucks Band in his mid-teens to now his newest ambition, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, has been a rise of humble excellence. And while there’s no modesty in his playing, Truck is more than willing to share the center of the stage. And who better to step forward than Tedeschi. Musically the two are a match with Tedeschi’s soulful and bluesy vocal style acting as the perfect compliment for Trucks. Wherever Tedeschi wants to go, Trucks follows. And with respect for Tedeschi’s own accomplishment which includes a series of Grammy Nominations, never has she sounded as inspired as she does on Revelator. The reason might be answered on the song “Don’t Let Me Slide” which sounds like an ode to Trucks and their relationship.

While the two musical heavyweights whose names grace the cover of the album are certainly the focus, it’s impossible to ignore the 11-piece band that brings this music to life. Revelator is a family affair, and not just due in part to the husband and wife collaboration. Both Trucks and Tedeschi employ members of their individual bands to play on Revelator. Plus contributions from folks like Ryan Shaw, David Ryan Harris and Eric Krasno of Soulive round out an impeccable cast of musicians.
