November 29, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, the Tedeschi Trucks Band joins host David Dye at NPR’s brand new performance space in Washington, DC. In 2011 singer Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks, both successful with separate music careers, did something that they had not previously tried in the 14 years that they have been together as a couple.
The married pair put out their debut as collaborators leading the 11 piece Tedeschi Trucks Band. That disc, called Revelator, earned them both a Grammy and a Blues Music Award for Album of the Year. Since then the group has gone on to perfect their sound through some heavy touring, and a second studio album, called Made Up Mind. They share where they drew their musical inspiration from earlier in their careers and play the Cafe’s Not So Newly Wed Game answering some fun questions about each other. Plus Laura Veirs and her new album Warp & Weft. The Portland based songwriter discusses working with her husband producer Tucker Martine and how their young family has impacted her music career. That’s this week on Conversations from the World Cafe!
