What’s It Like Inside A Twenty-Something’s Head? Listen To Waxahatchee’s New Cerulean Salt To Find Out

April 1, 2013 - There is a good reason the world is catching up with Katie Crutchfield and Waxahatchee. Her shows at SXSW, including an NPR showcase, were greeted rapturously.

The new album Cerulean Salt is a sonic leap from Waxahatchee’s debut American Weekend recorded in an Alabama bedroom. The simple acoustic guitar accompaniment on the first record has been given over to additional, if spare, instrumentation. The focus is still on Crutchfield’s bare evocation of youth in her lyrics. Katie and her sister Allison started making music in their teens in the punk band PS Elliot. Now living in Philadelphia, she and her boyfriend Keith Spencer have another band up their sleeve, Great Thunder. We’ll be listening.
