Clive Davis

From Barry Manilow To Patti Smith, Clive Davis Can Hear A Hit

May 10, 2013 - At the age of 81 music biz mogul Clive Davis slowed down enough to write his autobiography The Soundtrack of My Life. But talking with him you realize that it is just a moment before he is off again.

His book about making hit records is a bestseller itself. Clive tells us about how seeing Janis Joplin and Big Brother and The Holding Company at Monterey Pop Festival in The Sixties changed his life and Columbia Records. For Clive it is all about sitting down, lyric sheet in hand, and listening. His ears can hear a hit. Again and again. And he has not been afraid to let his artists know when he thinks he is right. We cover a lot of rock and pop history with this indefatigable man. Clive Davis talks music from over six decades on the World Cafe.
