Jonathan Wilson Artist To Watch - November 2013

The Artist To Watch for November is singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer Jonathan Wilson. Wilson just released his second solo record, Fanfare. In the States, the album is out on Downtown Records.

Up until 2011, when he released his critically acclaimed Gentle Spirit, Wilson was mostly a behind the scenes musician. His own studio in Echo Park, – Fivestar Studios – is known for its warm sound and analogue equipment.
Credited with helping to revitalize the Southern California Laurel Canyon music scene, Wilson produced the first two Dawes records and has produced records by Chris Robinson, Father John Misty and British legend Roy Harper. He’s been on World Cafe and was at Non-comm two years ago.

Wilson’s new album is already receiving well deserved glowing reviews. The songs on it are meticulously crafted, produced and ambitiously cinematic. One hears echoes of classic rock – Traffic, Pink Floyd, CS&N (Crosby, Stills & Nash), ELO, and yes, even early Supertramp. The songs are long and sweeping and showcase a level of excellence in artistry and craft missing from so much of today’s modern music. While it evokes rock and roll’s classic past, it’s completely refreshing to listen to. It’s tomorrow’s classic rock today. The album features contributions from David Crosby , Graham Nash , Jackson Browne , Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (from Tom Petty and The Hearbreakers,), Father John Misty, Taylor Goldsmith (lead singer/guitarist of Dawes), Wilco’s Patrick Sansone and Roy Harper.
