Coming together in 2006, the five-piece began to make the rounds in the London indie underground circuit. After releasing a few EPs, their debut in 2009 pushed them into popular media--Fanfarlo music began to appear in soundtracks of popular franchises such as Grey's Anatomy, Twilight, and Chuck. Influenced by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Joy Division, and Talking Heads, Fanfarlo have been able to craft a sound that's widely accessible yet refreshing and whimsical.
Now on their followup release, Fanfarlo have avoided the all-too-common sophomore slump with combination of soaring melodies and sweeping baroque rock. "Rooms Filled with Light" explores what seems like familiar territory in indie folk-pop, only louder. But along with the grand gestures, the orchestral friendliness, Fanfarlo have also incorporated more electronic and new wave influences. The result is captivating. Fanfarlo are taking steps away from the reputation for softer folk they crafted with their debut, and it's paying off.
