Surrounded by the sounds of T-Bone Walker, B.B. King, and many other blues greats, Walker was also influenced by early collaboration with the likes of Buddy Miles, Otis Rush, Steve Miller, Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix. Given his deft talent--crisp or crashing as needed--and his prodigious supply of soul-raising vocal inspirations, it's little wonder that Walker has become a blues rock hero, and award winner, for following generations. But that doesn't mean this bluesman has felt the need to slow it down. He's still going strong, as evidenced in his fierce new release, aptly named "Hellfire."
Hitting the shelves just this past January, "Hellfire" was produced and mixed by Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, George Thorogood). It features a solid mix of different blues--jump, slow, rock, and electric. Greatly recorded live, the 11-track collection captures the crackling on-stage energy that Walker has become known for. All-in-all, "Hellfire" is an intense release, an embodiment of Walker's devotion to the blues and another great showcase of his famous shredding/stroking capabilities. In today's World Cafe, hear Walker's live performance, including a live rendition of "blues-adelic" song, "Hellfire," and a great interview with David Dye.
