War on Drugs

May 2, 2014 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, War on Drugs plays live.
War on Drugs formed in 2005 in Philadelphia with both Kurt Vile, now a solo artist, and Adam Granduciel, who still leads the band, creating the music together. After the departure of Vile, the group released their critically acclaimed second album Slave Ambient. But the response to that disc does not compare to the press coverage and positive response the band has received for their new release, Lost in the Dream. Leader Adam Granduciel may have been nervous about making the group’s third album as good as their second, but clearly he had no need to worry. He talks about his concerns, as well shares his wildest road story from the last decade, in an interview with the Cafe’s Michaela Majoun. Plus, Drive-By Truckers. While a period of writer’s block may have slowed down the creation of the Trucker’s 11th album, English Oceans, it has certainly proved worth the wait. Songwriters Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley discuss how they finally found inspiration. That and more this week on Conversations from the World Cafe!
