Jason Isbell

Vintage Cafe Looking Back At Jason Isbell’s Southeastern With His Wife Amanda Shires

Our Vintage Cafe today jumps back a year to 2013 when an amazing transformation was taking place in the career of singer-songwriter Jason Isbell. Jason had been writing strong personal songs since his days in the Southern rock band Drive-by Truckers. After leaving the band in 2007 he made a number of solo records with and without his new band The 400 Unit. He even won an Americana Song of the Year award for his song “Alabama Pines.” On the outside what changed with his new album of atonement and redemption, Southeastern, was that Jason got sober and got married to Amanda Shires who also released a new album in 2013, Down Fell The Doves. What changed on the inside was Jason’s writing and his attention to translatable personal stories that hit emotionally for everyone. Southeastern became a breakthrough. Today we will talk with Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires, hear some acoustic songs as well as live full-band performances with The 400 Unit from the stage at World Cafe Live.
