Jim James on World Cafe Vintage

Vintage Cafe: An Extraordinary 2013 Visit From Jim James Of My Morning Jacket

In 2013 the leader of My Morning Jacket had just released Regions Of Light and Sound of God. There had been albums before using the name Yim Yames, and with The Monsters of Folk, but this was his first solo album under his own name. It was written during a period of convalescence from a stage fall. He was inspired by reading the graphic novel God's Man while trying to heal. He'll tell us today how the book's theme resonated. From the sound of this record you can tell James was influenced by soul music. The title, Regions of Light And Sound of God, led us to a very enlightening conversation about spirituality with the self-described "lapsed Catholic” and present meditater. The performances were recorded in concert at The Williamsburg Music Hall.
