March’s Artist to Watch is Chicago singer, songwriter and guitarist Ryley Walker.
Walker is phenomenal guitar player whose music has a timelessness to it, even though, if you close your eyes and listen closely, he sounds as if he came from the late Sixties and early 70’s British folk movement. Walker blends folk, swirling, dreamy jazz and touches of psychedelia, taking his musical cues from artists like Tim Buckley, Bert Jansch, John Martyn.
Walker was featured as one of David Dye’s World Cafe Next artists in December, 2013, just as Walker had released his debut EP. His debut full length, All Kinds Of You, was released in April, 2014, and he did a World Cafe session in May, 2014. His new album, Primrose Green, is being released on March 31st. It’s a gorgeous collection of warm and seductive songs, showcasing Walker’s intricate guitar playing.
