Internationally acclaimed Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are back on the road, bringing their unique instrumental blend of metal, jazz, and world music to the Friday night stage at Wiggins Park. After playing together for more than fifteen years, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have won the hearts of music lovers all over the world, and are an exciting addition to this year's festival lineup.
Rodrigo y Gabriela play everything from heavy metal to jazz to acoustic folk. The dynamic duo met in a thrash metal band in Mexico City, but moved to Dublin in 1999. From Ireland, their avant garde music spread to the UK, then to Europe and the United States before finally finding its way back to Mexico.
One of this year's most outstanding new artists, Rodrigo y Gabriela are Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintana, Mexico City natives who now live in and wrok out of Dublin, Ireland. It's a simple formula, really... two acoustic guitars, all instrumental songs. I can assure you that the results are much more interesting than the description.
The full experience of Rodrigo y Gabriela is hardly realized until you witness the duo in a live setting. Well, you can do so now without leaving your living room with the release of Rodrigo y Gabriela Live in Japan. It marks the duo's first ever performance in Japan, recorded this past March, and takes advantage of the captivating energy and mind-blowing musicianship they bring to the stage.

Meet Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero. They play flamenco guitar and are influenced as much by Metallica and Led Zep (which they cover on their debut) as they are influenced by Al DiMeola and Strunz & Farah. Their self-titled debut in the States is on ATO Records, and was produced by John Leckie.
