June 5, 2013 - Rod Stewart discusses Time, his first album of new material in nearly two decades. While in the past Stewart has had hits like “Maggie May,” “Do You Think I’m Sexy,” and “Downtown Train,” in recent years the British singer focused on covering the Great American Songbook.
In an interview with the Cafe’s Michaela Majoun, he reveals today that it wasn’t writer’s block that stopped him from penning new songs, but in fact advice from exactly the wrong person. Plus, The Slide Brothers. Each of the four pedal steel players that make up the Brothers got an early start playing in the church. After decades of experience, they came together, with the help of Robert Randolph, put out their debut Robert Randolph Presents the Slide Brothers. They give an insider’s perspective on the sacred steel tradition which has started to gather admirers outside their faith community.
