The Pixies

The Pixies Image by: Michael Halsband
March 26, 2014 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, The Pixies join host David Dye. The Pixies formed in Boston in 1986 and stayed together for seven years.
Although popular in Europe, here in the USA they were never huge, instead influencing the bands that later became alternative rock stars in the 90s. In 2004 they decided to reunite, at first only planning a brief return. But due to popular demand they have just kept playing. Since September The Pixies have also put out three EPs of new material and at the end of April they will be releasing their first album in 23 years, Indy Cindy. Original members, Frank Black, Joey Santiago and David Lovering, discuss The Pixies new and old, including the departure of original bassist Kim Deal. Plus, Mike Doughty. The Soul Coughing frontman finally embraces the hits he wrote in the 90s for the group and then abandoned. He talks about why working with the band was such a difficult period for him personally. That and more this week on Conversations from the World Cafe!
