But the clever songwriter is also well known for an interesting variety of collaborations over the past two decades, working with New Orleans elderstatesman Allen Toussaint, rock star Paul McCartney, and classical singer Anne Sofie Von Otter, among others. On his newest disc he joins forces with the hip hop band The Roots, a highly sympathetic match up in that the group also looks to do things just a little bit differently than their contemporaries. The Roots have been the house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon since the show began in 2009 and are known for incorporating live instruments into a hip hop based sound. They are also not afraid to branch out into other genres. Together The Roots and Elvis Costello have created the brand new album Wise Up Ghost.
